A Special Ramadan Message

With the celebration of Id Al Fitr last weekend, we thought readers would like to see two reports on the tradition of fast breaking, the iftar evening meal. Including President Thomas Jefferson’s White House first.

We begin with a report from the West Bank where Israeli Jewish settlers hosted an iftar for their Palestinian Muslim neighbors (with thanks to our Israeli colleague Debbie Weissman).

Then we offer a remarkable piece of Washington Post research by Amy Wang, with a lesson on Jefferson’s passion about religious freedom in America.
