Coping with Surges in Anti-Semitism and Islamophobia in America
We are being somewhat parochial in covering this subject in the United States. It is also serious in Europe. But in the current political environment we want to report some good news mixed in with the bad.
The first item is a report by a young American Jew who is liberated from his apathy about the moral implications of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Then we follow with a column by one of the Washington Post’s most humane staff writers about a major mosque’s community service in the Washington, DC region which offers health care to all God’s children.

Our third piece is by the leader of a well-established Jewish day school in the DC area whose faith in our community was powerfully strengthened.

We end with a bit of nineteenth history that provides critical perspective for the 21st century in the U.S. but also the Muslim and non-Muslim world at large. The full story of Emir Abd el-Kader is told in author John W. Kiser’s remarkable book, “Commander of the Faithful.”
